Homeschooling Kindergarten: Day 1 - Creation

This is our first year homeschooling. Our son attended Pre-K last year at the on-post school, and we were not completely satisfied with the experience. The entire year of Pre-K only further confirmed our desire to homeschool our children.

Our oldest will be 6 in September and knows his letters and most of the sounds. We decided to start with My Father's World kindergarten curriculum to lay a solid foundation for the coming homeschool years. Our first day was today, a few weeks before the public schools begin, as we are taking a family vacation towards the end of August.

We started by taking pictures for our 'Memory Books' for the school year. At the end of the year we will take another photo to see how much we grew!

Of course E Bug wanted to be included! He will work on colors, shapes, numbers 1-10 and recognizing the ABC's this year. As long as he wants to participate, he will.  E Bug just turned 3, so Pre-K is not a priority at the moment, as Legos and Super Heroes are much more interesting right now!

Day 1 covered the first day of Creation. I read to Little Bear about Day 1 from the Bible, but he is super visual and these two books are WONDERFUL! They pretty much follow what Genesis says, with 'God Made It for You' explaining it a bit more (talks about no light in the darkness.. no lightbulbs, or candles, etc.. very cute and great for a Kindergarten to grasp). Both books have incredible illustrations.

We did our student work from the Student Pages of MFW and will work throughout the year on our handwriting in a daily journal. Handwriting will need ALOT of work before 1st grade! We will get there! :D
